Weekly Recap
REVIEW: The Lost Code by Kevin Emerson
REVIEW: vN by Madeline Ashby
REVIEW: Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie

I was able to get my hands on some fabulous books this week! I can honestly say I am excited about every single one of these :)

Ashen Winter (Ashfall #2) by Mike Mullin
for review from netgalley & Tanglewood Press
It’s been over six months since the eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano. Alex and Darla have been staying with Alex’s relatives, trying to cope with the new reality of the primitive world so vividly portrayed in Ashfall, the first book in this series. It’s also been six months of waiting for Alex’s parents to return from Iowa. Alex and Darla decide they can wait no longer and must retrace their journey into Iowa to find and bring back Alex’s parents to the tenuous safety of Illinois. But the landscape they cross is even more perilous than before, with life-and-death battles for food and power between the remaining communities. When the unthinkable happens, Alex must find new reserves of strength and determination to survive.
In case you don't remember, I LOVED Ashfall. When I saw that this was on netgalley I seriously did a little happy dance. I cannot wait to dive into this one :)

Shift by Kim Curran
for review from Strange Chemistry
When your average, 16-year old loser, Scott Tyler, meets the beautiful and mysterious Aubrey Jones, he learns he's not so average after all. He's a 'Shifter'. And that means he has the power to undo any decision he's ever made. At first, he thinks the power to shift is pretty cool. But as his world starts to unravel around him he realises that each time he uses his power, it has consequences; terrible unforeseen consequences. Shifting is going to get him killed. In a world where everything can change with a thought, Scott has to decide where he stands.
I've heard great things about this one and I think the synopsis sounds amazing - sort of like a Butterfly effect thing. At any rate, it sounds like a great read.

Blackwood by Gwenda Bond
for review from Strange Chemistry
On Roanoke Island, the legend of the 114 people who mysteriously vanished from the Lost Colony hundreds of years ago is just an outdoor drama for the tourists, a story people tell. But when the island faces the sudden disappearance of 114 people now, an unlikely pair of 17-year-olds may be the only hope of bringing them back.

Miranda, a misfit girl from the island's most infamous family, and Phillips, an exiled teen criminal who hears the voices of the dead, must dodge everyone from federal agents to long-dead alchemists as they work to uncover the secrets of the new Lost Colony. The one thing they can't dodge is each other.

Blackwood is a dark, witty coming of age story that combines America's oldest mystery with a thoroughly contemporary romance
Doesn't this sound fabulous? I'm going to have to read this one soon. I love mysteries... and when you combine them with paranormal twists? Sign me up right now. And let's talk about that cover for a minute. I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by it's cover... but come on. It's simultaneously lovely and creepy.

Flight (Crescent Chronicles #1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy
For Blog Tour Review / Bewitching Book Tours
Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.
I don't know too much about this one, except what I've got from the synopsis - it's about a young girl, it takes place in New Orleans and it's got some sort of Supernatural twist. I'm  betting something about a bird - hence the bird on the cover. But I really have no idea. Anyways... this one definitely sounds like it's right up my alley.

Stormdancer (The Lotus War #1) by Jay Kristoff
For Review from St. Martins Press / Thomas Dunne Books
A DYING LAND
The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; an island nation once rich in tradition and myth, now decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, the land is choked with toxic pollution, and the great spirit animals that once roamed its wilds have departed forever.

AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST
The hunters of Shima's imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger – a legendary creature, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows the beasts have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.

A HIDDEN GIFT
Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a talent that if discovered, would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.

But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.
The term "wicked cool" comes to mind. I am beyond excited for this one.

My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers #2) by Rachel Vincent
Library
When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.

So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn’t wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can’t cry for someone who has no soul.

The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad’s ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend’s loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can’t possibly understand.

Kaylee can’t let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk...

Hello, my lovely. I am so excited to see you in my to-read-pile. Thank you, oh almighty library gods for making this happen.
