Waiting on Wednesday: Frost Bruned by Patricia Briggs

Book: Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson #7) by Patricia Briggs
Release Date: March 5th, 2013
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Orbit
Description: Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson's life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam's disappearance may be related - and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.
Why I'm Waiting: I'll be the first to admit, I didn't love the last book in this series. In fact, I might have to say that Brigg's other series (Alpha & Omega) is starting to worm its my past the Mercy Thompson books in my mind. However, I do still love them. And I'm excited for Frost Burned and cannot wait to get my hands on it. I always love some Mercy / Adam time. Plus, it sounds like Stefan might make more of an impact in Frost Burned than he has in the previous books. Which makes me happy. I do love the werewolves, but I've missed Mercy's favorite mystery-machine-driving vampire.

Waiting on Wednesday: Mystic City by Theo Lawrence

Book: Mystic City (Mystic City #1) by Theo Lawrence
Genre: Young Adult / Dystopian / Famtasy
Release Date: October 9th, 2012
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Description: For fans of Matched, The Hunger Games, X-Men, and Blade Runner comes a tale of a magical city divided. A political rebellion ignited. A love that was meant to last forever.

Aria Rose, youngest scion of one of Mystic City's two ruling rival families, finds herself betrothed to Thomas Foster, the son of her parents' sworn enemies. The union of the two will end the generations-long political feud—and unite all those living in the Aeries, the privileged upper reaches of the city, against the banished mystics who dwell below in the Depths. But Aria doesn't remember falling in love with Thomas; in fact, she wakes one day with huge gaps in her memory. And she can't conceive why her parents would have agreed to unite with the Fosters in the first place. Only when Aria meets Hunter, a gorgeous rebel mystic from the Depths, does she start to have glimmers of recollection—and to understand that he holds the key to unlocking her past. The choices she makes can save or doom the city—including herself.
Why I'm Waiting: This book had me at hello. Well, at least at "for fans of Matched, The Hunger Games, X-Men & Blade Runner". Check, check, check and check. Honestly though, doesn't this one sound amazing? I definitely will be reading this once it comes out.

Waiting On Wednesday: The Archived

Waiting on Wednesday is hosting by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Book: The Archived by Victoria Schwab
Release Date: January 22nd, 2013
Genre: Young Adult / Fantasy
Publisher: Hyperion

Description:
Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often-violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn't just dangerous—it's a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da's death was hard enough, but now her little brother is gone too. Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hard-won redemption.

Doesn't this just sound divine? Plus, I loved Victoria's book, The Near Witch. Hopefully The Archived will be just as wonderful. And look at that cover! Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

Waiting on Wednesday: Arcadia Awakens

Waiting on Wednesday is hosting by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Book: Arcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer
Release Date: February 14th, 2012

Genre: Young Adult / Urban Fantasy?
Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Description: To Rosa Alcantara, the exotic world of Sicily, with its network of Mafia families and its reputation for murder and intrigue, is just that—exotic and wholly unknown. But when her life in Brooklyn begins to fall apart, she must travel there, to her family’s ancestral home, where centuries of family secrets await her.

Once there, Rosa falls head over heels for Alessandro Carnevare, the son of a Sicilian Mafia family, whose handsome looks and savage grace both fascinate and unsettle her. But their families are sworn enemies, and her aunt and sister believe Alessandro is only using Rosa to infiltrate the Alcantara clan. And when Rosa encounters a tiger one night—a tiger with very familiar eyes—she can no longer deny that neither the Carnevares nor the Alcantaras are what they seem.

Hidden caves, dangerous beasts roaming the hills, and a history of familial bloodlust mean that Rosa can’t trust anyone. Torn between loyalty to her family and love for their mortal enemy, Rosa must make the hardest decision of her life: stay in Sicily with her new love…or run as far and as fast as she can.

It says this one was originally published in 2009, so this must be a reprint. Or, maybe it wasn't published in the United States or something (it's a German author). At any rate, I am excited for it. It sounds amazing, I love action/adventure love stories. Plus, it sounds like it's got the whole starcrossed lovers thing going on. And the mob. Who doesn't love Mafia stories? Also... I went to the authors website and I just realized that he also wrote The Water Mirror. I picked that book up at a library sale and have been meaning to read. I should definitely get to it :)

Oh, how I LOVE this series. Seriously, can I please be Kitty? Just for a little bit? I cannot tell you how excited I am for the fourth book, although I am hoping that we get to see Kitty preggers. It sounds like we may be skipping right over the whole pregnancy, which would be a shame. I would love to see Kitty with crazy, uncontrollable hormones. Honestly, wouldn't a pregnant Kitty, be a fabulous Kitty? However, I have completely faith in Gini Koch and I am sure I will love the book, no matter what. As long as there's Kitty + Jeff time and adequate doses of all of my favorite boys.. which is basically the entire cast. Have I mentioned that I love this series? If you haven't read it yet, dig yourself out of your hole and get to it!
Oh and let me just say that I adore the cover, as always. Dan Dos Santos, you're my hero!

But after centuries of fruitless searching, the archangels -- and their enemy -- have all but given up hope. Until one day beautiful and gifted Eleanore Granger crosses paths with Uriel, the Angel of Vengeance. And as a storm rages, outside forces conspire together, initiating an age old battle of good versus evil to win the first archess.

I don't know what it is about Angel Paranormal Romance books, but I just love them - almost as much as I love werewolf books. This one sounds pretty intriguing, although, it is going to have to be a nook purchased or an ordered paperback. Unfortunately, I still haven't gotten over my phobia of purchasing steamy covers in the flesh. Oh, well. That can be News Years Resolution next year - get over the embarrassment of the half naked covers.

Release Date: August 30th, 2011
Genre:  Young Adult
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin

A gripping and incredibly important story about a tight-knit town torn apart by a vicious hate crime.

He's out on bail and has been offered a plea in exchange for testifying against Jimmy.  Sean must decide whether or not to turn on his friend in order to save himself.  But most importantly, both must figure out why they followed someone like Jimmy—someone who bullied people and advocated violence against others—in the first place.

This sounds amazing. I love books that deal with difficult subjects, ones that push the boundaries and I cannot wait to dive into this!
