Waiting on Wednesday: Starcrossed & You Against Me

Waiting on Wednesday is a Weekly Meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

Book: Starcrossed (Starcrossed #1) - Josephine Angelini
Release Date: May 31, 2011
Publisher:  Harper Teen
Genre: Young Adult
Description from Goodreads: Set on the island of Nantucket, STARCROSSED tells the tale of Helen Hamilton, a young woman whose destiny is forever altered when she meets Lucas Delos and tries to kill him in front of her entire high school. Which is terribly inconvenient, not only because Lucas is the most beautiful boy on the island, but also because Helen is so achingly shy she suffers physical pain whenever she is given too much attention. Making matters worse, Helen is beginning to suspect she’s going crazy. Whenever she’s near Lucas or any member of his family she sees the ghostly apparitions of three women weeping bloody tears, and suffers the burden of an intense and irrational hate. She soon learns that she and Lucas are destined to play the leading roles in a Greek tragedy that the Three Fates insist on repeating over and over again throughout history. Like her namesake, Helen of Troy, she’s destined to start a war by falling in love. But even though Lucas and Helen can see their own star-crossed destiny, they’re still powerfully attracted to each other. Will they give up their personal happiness for the greater good, or risk it all to be together?
Doesn't this sound amazing!? I love the idea of a modern story that plays off of the legend of Helen of Troy. I am also loving how this story involves the three fates. Everytime they are featured in a book or movie, I absolutely love them. Weren't they awesome in Percy Jackson? And who could forget them in the Disney version of Hercules. The Three Fates are fabulous. I think this book is going to be great and I cannot wait to read it.

Book: You Against Me - Jenny Downham
Release Date: December 2nd, 2010
Publisher:  David Flickling Books
Genre: Young Adult
Description from Goodreads:If someone hurts your sister and you're any kind of man, you seek revenge, right? If your brother's been accused of a terrible crime and you're the main witness, then you banish all doubt and defend him. Isn't that what families do? When Mikey's sister claims a boy assaulted her at a party, his world of work and girls begins to fall apart. When Ellie's brother is charged with the crime, but says he didn't do it, her world of revision, exams and fitting in at a new school begins to unravel. When Mikey and Ellie meet, two worlds collide. Brave and unflinching, this is a novel of extraordinary skillfulness and almost unbearable tension. It's a book about loyalty and the choices that come with it. But above all it's a book about love - for one's family and for another.

This one sounds amazing too. It seems a bit dark, but intense. I am excited to see how everything turns out. It certainly is a unique premise and I am intrigued by it!

Hi Sarah--Starcrossed does sound good! I wonder if you might be interested in my new novel, Penelope's Daughter, which retells the story of Homer's epics from the point of view of the women, including Helen. It's not specifically YA, but it would probably appeal to YA fans. If you'd like a copy to review on your blog, let me know!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advance readers copy of Starcrossed.... It WAS great!!!! The writing was much better quality than Twilight, but will have a lot of appeal for that fan base. Much better than Percy Jackson too, but as those fans get older, this will be a great pick for them too. I definitely recommend picking this up the day it comes out! I think it will be a hit.
