My Top 5 Potential BFF’s in Speculative Fiction

When I read a book it is very important for me to be able to connect with and enjoy the characters. Most of the time we get swept away in the romance portion of books, but I also love the friendship aspects of stories. So, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of my favorite female characters in speculative fiction and see who I think would make a great BFF (Best Friend Forever). These awesome ladies were chosen for a variety of reasons - but they are all fabulous in their own ways. I did not put them in any order, because I don't think I would be able to :)  So, without further ado - here are my Top 5 BFF choices:

Katherine “Kitty” Katt
(Gini Koch’s Alien Series)
Kitty Katt is the ideal BFF. She has excellent taste in music and certainly knows how to keep it real. She is one tough chick, but has a soft side as well. She is very protective of those close to her and will stop at nothing to do the right thing. She is incredibly snarky and has no problem speaking her mind. Plus, she knows tons of absolutely gorgeous men. She could certainly make a few introductions :)

Claire Danvers
(Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire Series)
Claire is the perfect BFF candidate. She is funny, loyal and rather easy going. She is a people person – she chooses to see the best in people (ummm.. Myrnin anyone?).  She is a huge geek and would totally accept and support my book obsession. Plus, if something were even to happen to you, little miss Claire would come in with guns blazing. Home girl has taken out a few vampires with nothing but a measly pencil. She can be on my team anytime. Maybe she would let me use her Vampire Pepper Spray gun sometime – you know it’s awesome.

Millicent "Scout" Green
(Chloe Neill’s The Dark Elite Series)
Oh Scout, I love you so. I think that Ms. Green and I would get along swimmingly. She is certainly quirky, slightly geeky and dances to the beat of her own drum. Not to mention she is kind of a superhero. Scout is a total badass when it comes to her adept skills and she always has Lily’s back (whether they are dealing with stuck up classmates or crazed monsters in the underground tunnels of Chicago).

Alexia Maccon
(Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate Series)
Alexia Maccon is blunt and to the point. If she thinks you look ugly in something, she will certainly let you know (just ask Ivy). This, is a quality I value in friends – I would rather them tell me, than walk around looking like a loon. You would never be bored in her company; she is always surrounded by a rather lively (in some sense) crowd. Lady Maccon certainly keeps things interesting. Unlike me, she keeps her head when everything hits the fan. It’s always nice to have some sane person around when a crisis hits. Plus, she has no problem showing her love for food – you would never need to be self conscious in her company. I would introduce her to two of my best friends – Ben & Jerry!

Hermione Granger
(J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter)
How could I not include the one and only Ms. Granger? Honestly, how many times does Hermione save Harry and Ron’s asses? She is a loyal friend and even goes against the rules for her boys (*this is a VERY big deal for her). She is quick on her feet, extremely caring and an AMAZING witch. I think she would be the best person to help get you out of a jam – she always has a plan.

What do you think of my list? I had a difficult time narrowing it down, but I am pretty happy with it. Do you think I missed someone? Who would you place on your list?

Great picks! I agree with Hermione so bad. I mean really, how awesome would it be to have her as your BFF? She's great.
