Anna Dressed In Blood - Kendare Blake
signed ARC from author, for review
Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.
I read and reviewed Kendare's debut novel, Sleepwalk Society and LOVED it. Although Anna is a huge departure from her first novel, it sounds absolutely amazing. I have literally had to force myself not to read it - it doesn't come out until September and I have a stack of books I need to read. My self control won't last much longer, though - I just know it's going to be fabulous!

Purpose (Soul Savers #2) - Kristie Cook
purchased ebook
Lost in despair, Alexis teeters on the edge of an abyss, her lifeline of hope fraying into a thin thread. If it snaps, she’ll plunge into complete darkness. With the help of her son and her writing, she’s been able to hold on. Until now. Erratic impulses, disturbing delusions and her own demonic blood threaten her sanity. When she’s forced to choose between hanging onto hope or letting go to serve her Amadis purposes, she faces a decision with inconceivable sacrifices.

Alexis runs to the one place she thinks will provide answers, only to find herself at the center of another battle of good versus evil, not only with the Daemoni, not only within herself…but also against the worst opponent imaginable. But even if she wins, what will she lose?
I read the first book in this series, Promise, last week (the review will be posted tomorrow) and immediatley bought Purpose. I haven't started it yet, but it is waiting for me on my nook :)

River Cast (Lunarmorte #2) - Samantha Young
from author, for review

Enter a world of fierce wolves, stunning magic and romance...

The war is escalating.
Caia is caught between her loyalty to the Daylights and her new insight into the hearts of the Midnights.
Invited to train at the Centre under the tutelage of the Daylights, Caia and Lucien immerse themselves in the world of the Head of the Coven, Marita. With an upcoming battle hanging over their heads, Caia and her Alpha struggle to understand Marita’s vision for the future of the Coven, and withstand her manipulation and plans for them. Plans that are sure to separate Caia from Pack Errante; plans that inadvertently push Caia not only further away from Lucien, but from all Daylights.

Conflicted… Caia must choose a side in the war. And her choice may mean sacrificing all those she has come to love.

I just reviewed the first book in the Lunarmorte series, Moon Spell and I am ecstatic that Samantha is giving me the chance to review River Cast. I cannot wait to dive into this one either!

Hollowland - Amanda Hocking
purchased ebook
Hollowland - the first book in the young adult dystopian series The Hollows...

"This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

I already read & reviewed this one... and basically is was freaking awesome. If you haven't read it yet, please do.. immediately.

The Maze Runner - James Dashner
from Random Buzzers

Imagine waking up one day in total darkness, unsure of where you are and unable to remember anything about yourself except your first name. You're in a bizarre place devoid of adults called the Glade. The Glade is an enclosed structure with a jail, a graveyard, a slaughterhouse, living quarters, and gardens. And no way out. Outside the Glade is the Maze, and every day some of the kids -- the Runners -- venture into the labyrinth, trying to map the ever-changing pattern of walls in an attempt to find an exit from this hellish place. So far, no one has figured it out. And not all of the Runners return from their daily exertions, victims of the maniacal Grievers, part animal, part mechanical killing machines.

Thomas is the newest arrival to the Glade in this Truman-meets-Lord of the Flies tale. A motley crew of half a dozen kids is all he has to guide him in this strange world. As soon as he arrives, unusual things begin to happen, and the others grow suspicious of him. Though the Maze seems somehow familiar to Thomas, he's unable to make sense of the place, despite his extraordinary abilities as a Runner. What is this place, and does Thomas hold the key to finding a way out?

In The Maze Runner, Dashner has crafted a creative and engaging novel that's both mysterious and thought provoking.

I actually ordered this book from random buzzers in January. I was convinced that it got lost in the mail and was never going to show up. When it finally did arrive, the package was all beaten up. Thankfully, the book is still in great condition. Normally, my books from Random Buzzers arrive within two weeks - so something kooky definitely went down with USPS.

OMG. You got Anna Dressed in Blood? I would kill, maim and destroy an entire nation to get my hands on that book (just kidding) and I can't believe you haven't started it yet! Those other books can wait until you finish it. Read it! Now! It's like the novel of the year! I bought Promise a while ago, am looking forward to reading it. Happy reading!
