Book Blogger Hop

This week's Questions is...
"If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?"

Oh, yes. Always. I do not want to miss anything, I want to get the whole reading experience. Most of the time, I cruise right through the series anyways. I always get on little reading kicks if I really enjoy a series - I absolutely fly through them.

I also participate in Follow Friday, so those of you who popped by from that, thank you - and thank you parajunkee for hosting it!

This week's question from Follow Friday is..

What is your usual monthly book budget?

Not a whole lot :) Remember, I am a college student. I hardly ever buy books at full price - honestly, the only ones I buy full price are the cheap paperbacks. And, I usually don't do that. I buy a lot of books used or online - and I try to only buy books that I have already read. But, that rule usually flies out the window if I find a good deal. Which, happens often. I always shop the closeouts online - Barnes & Noble has a big blowout sale on YA every once in a while, and Books-a-million has tons of bargain books - I just bought books 1 and 2 in the Mortal Instruments and Strange Angels series for like $2 a pop. I also shop at bookcloseouts.com - every  month they have a different deal - a few months ago it was childrens (YA included) was $1 a book. I also occasionally stop by some of the Goodwills and Thrift stores in the area - they usually have their books priced at 4/$1. Sometimes, you can get really lucky with their selection too :)

But if I had to put a number out there, I would say that at the very most, I would spend about $50. I really have no clue how much I spend though.  I should start keeping track. Or maybe I don't really want to know :)

I'm a college student as well. My book budget is geared for boring ol' schoolbooks.

Just stopping by through Follow Friday. Lucky I am finished college and don't have to stress too much about a budget. I have to buy nearly all my books as we have not much in the library.

I am a new follower. Check out my blog at http://irresistiblereads.blogspot.com/

Hopped in to say hi. Being in college definitely plays havoc with the budget and time, but the up side is that when you finish you will be making the big bucks and can afford to feed your reading habit! Have a great weekend!

Hi there! Stopping by from the hop!

I too have to start at the beginning of a series. I always feel that I would miss way too much if I skipped one. Happy Friday!

Just hopping by. I'm a big fan of thrift stores and used bookstores for buying my books. I'd be bankrupt by now if I'd paid retail for my entire library. Have a great Friday!

I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
doesn't run chronologically.

That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.

On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.

Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!

I totally agree with you on series books. Once I start a series I tend to want to just read book after book after book in that series which doesn't really lead to a variety of reviews for the blog so I must contain myself. I have decided that I don't like waiting for series books to come out though so I tend not to start reading it until there are a few to hold me over until the next one comes out.

I wish I lived in the US, the two sites you listed look super cheap but when you factor in shipping to Australia it's not so good :(

Glad to see you gave Afterlight a good review, I actually would love to get this one but due to my self imposed book buying ban I can't do it just yet.

I really wish we had a Books-a-million nearby, but we don't have one! D: If I'm painfully honest, I really dislike buying secondhand books because I always take really, really good care of my books and I cringe when I see pages bent, spines creased or bent, and so forth.
I'm an old follower and just stopping by. ;D
