Tune in Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Ginger at GReads. For the month of October the theme is Soundtracks. I've decided to go the all encompassing route and include songs that are featured in movies, TV shows and of course, musicals.
I've got a boat load of tunes for you today -- I have a huge list and I am trying to fit in as many as possible before the month is over :)
Tune in Tuesday: Soundtrack Edition Vol 1
Tune in Tuesday: Soundtrack Edition Vol 1
Rhythm of the Rain - The Cascades (American Dreams)
Favorite Line: The only girl I care about has gone away, looking for a brand new start.
But little does she know that when she left that day, along with her she took my heart
But little does she know that when she left that day, along with her she took my heart
I LOVE American Dreams. I have the first season on DVD and I am waiting (rather impatiently) for the following two seasons to FINALLY come to DVD. The problem, from what I've heard has been securing the music rights. Which makes sense, because they used a ton of amazing songs on that song This song, Rhythm of the Rain is played in season one during Meg's spotlight dance with Jimmy. It was the first time I had ever heard it before and I instantly fell in love. I have a soft spot for oldies and I love when music includes the thunder tracks. I don't know why, but I do. Maybe it's because I love rain so much :)
Tiny Dancer - Elton John (Almost Famous)
Favorite Line: And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand
Cameron Crowe is kind of a god. He does such an amazing job combining movies with music :) Did you know that Almost Famous was based on his life? Hmm? Hmmm? I did a project on his film for my "film as lit" class in high school. Anyways.. back on track. Tiny Dancer is an incredible song. You all know it's true. And this scene is remarkable. If you've seen the movie before, you will understand. If you haven't... you really need to get on that.
Secret Garden - Bruce Springsteen (Jerry Maguire)
Favorite Line: She'll let you in her heart, if you got a hammer and a vise. But into her secret garden, don't think twice
What do you know. Another Cameron Crowe film. And another Springsteen song. Can you honestly say that you are shocked?
Changes - Stars (The Nine Lives of Chloe King)
Favorite Line: Once said, words make a world of their own. I misread, I can't get you back on the phone. So tired, I'll turn it off, turn it off, turn it off
Apparently this song has been on every show under the sun. I first heard it on Chloe King :) On a side note, while I was looking for a video to post, I stumbled on the official music video. What is going on there? Naked people crawling around what looks like a theater? I don't know. I chose to go with the one with a image of the nice people from Chloe King. Who happen to be clothed.
Please Speak Well of Me - The Weepies (Pretty Little Liars)
Favorite Line: Looking back now, I only wish I had been kinder. Did I ever know love, did I ever know love? And could I have been blinder?
Confession. I don't actually WATCH Pretty Little Liars. But I do check out the music featured in the show on a regular basis. Strange, I know. But, that's how I roll. Anyways, the WEEPIES people. I adore the Weepies.
Somebody Kill Me Please - Adam Sandler (The Wedding Singer)
Favorite Line: the chorus. BY FAR.
Too funny. Just too funny. I had the worst time choosing between Somebody Kill Me Please, I Wanna Grow Old With You and Love Stinks. The Wedding Singer is one of the best movies EVER.
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider (Vision Quest)
Favorite Line: Lunatic fringe. We all know you're out there. Can you feel the resistance?
Can you feel the thunder?
Can you feel the thunder?
Lunatic Fringe is one of the most underrated songs of all time. NOBODY knows this song... and it's just such a shame. I've heard it on the radio once - and that was during a "lost classic" weekend on 94.9 WMMQ. I was introduced to it through the movie and it just absolutely stuck with me - it's one of those perfect night time driving songs :) The movie is so-so.. I could really do without the stupid romantic storyline & Madonna's Crazy For You every two seconds. I used to like that song. After the movie? Not so much. Although.. it has one of my favorite movie scenes ever. It's what happens in that six minutes, folks.
Can't Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley (Blue Hawaii)
Favorite Line: some things are meant to be...
I'll admit it. I've never seen this movie. But holy f-bombs this is a good song. I also adore the Ingrid Michaelson version.
Viva Forever - Spice Girls (Spiceworld)
Favorite Line: Both of us were dreamers, young love in the sun. Felt like my saviour, my spirit I gave you, we'd only just begun
Yes, I realize that this is kind of cheating. Counting the Spiceworld album as a soundtrack? But.. it is fact a movie. In which this song is featured. And honestly, who doesn't love the Spice Girls? Let's just all play nice and admit we still belt out these songs when nobody is looking.
Gloria - Van Morrison (The Outsiders)
Favorite Line: She's about five-feet-four, from her head to the ground
Oh, Ponyboy. Oh, Sodapop. I love you so. What a great movie. Francis Ford Coppola paired with S.E. Hinton's classic. How could you go wrong? And then... add in some kickin Van Morrison tunes? Psh. Instant classic my friends. Stay Golden, Pony.
Come Pick Me Up - Ryan Adams (Elizabethtown)
Favorite Line: I wish you would...
Cameron Crowe movie #3 for today. Dude is so good at creating soundtracks. Anyways, so I love Ryan Adams... and it all started with this song. I don't even want to discuss the way American Idol ruined it. Alright, maybe I do. What was that? And Why was he dancing like a chicken. Ugh. Poor, poor, Ryan Adams.
Jesus Was a Crossmaker - The Hollies (Elizabethtown)
Favorite Line: he's a bandit and a heartbreaker..
Isn't it lovely? I love the Hollies.

Sarah, you always pick the most amazing songs! I was totally going to pick Tiny Dancer for next week, best scene from a great movie. I was going to pick Secret Garden too, love Springsteen. The Elvis song is one of my favorites and you can't go wrong with anything from Wedding Singer. Great choices!
Wonderful picks!
As always.. awesome song choices this week! I almost picked Secret Garden from Jerry Maguire for this week. Such a pretty song.
You picked so many songs that I love like Tiny Dancer and Secret Garden, and Can't Help Falling In Love (I love the Elvis version!)
Again I don't even know where to begin! Tiny Dancer, LOVE that song! For some reason it makes me undeniably happy. I've never actually watched The Nine Lives of Chloe King but I fully intended to. I love the song you picked from that show. Also, how have I NEVER heard of The Weepies before? Or at least I don't think I have. The Wedding Singer <3. And to end it, that is my favorite Elvis song EVER! Ingrid's version is quite lovely!
I love that scene in Almost Famous!!! I love that whole movie, actually. And The Wedding Singer!! I love that song, too! You're right..that chorus is awesome! Amazing picks, like always. :)
So many good songs. Bruce, Van Morrison, Elvis... Thanks for sharing. :)
My TT
I love the Weepies :) They're fantastic and Deb Talan's voice is just...so smooth/inviting. Also, love your Almost Famous and Wedding Singer choices. Great post!
Ninja Girl
I think my favorite new pick of yours would have to be "Changes" by Stars. Such a mellow, great song with wonderful lyrics! Thanks for sharing! I always love to find new music!
Ah Bruce... Love that man. 'Nuff said. I hadn't heard Changes before or Please Speak Well of Me, despite being a Pretty Little Liars fan, I liked them both & they've been added to my spotify playlist. ;)
We read The Outsiders in school & I remember really enjoying the book and film. I think I'll have to re-read/re-watch it, for old times sake. :D
Great choices, yet again!
Oh my biscuits... killer choices! You had me with The Cascades in the beginning, let me tell you. I listened to that kind of music A LOT growing up (in the 80s/90s, thank you. I'm not that old). Elton John, classic. Stars & The Weepies?!?!?! OMB I LOVE THEM! Two of my all-time favorites groups ever. Elvis, legendary. The Outsiders? LOVE both book & movie. Then Elizabethtown... can't go wrong with that soundtrack. GAH! Thanks for the awesome tune-age!
My Tune in Tuesday pick!
