I got quite a few books for review this week.. it seems like there has been something in the mail everyday :) Most of these were surprises, which is always so wonderful. It adds to the anticipation of opening the package -- it's just like Christmas :) Anyways, all of these books look great and I cannot wait to dig into them! I had never heard of Planesrunner and Lightbringer before; but they sound awesome don't they! I'd like to thank TorTeen, HarperTeen, PYR & St. Martins for allowing me to review these awesome titles :)

Variant - Robison Wells
Review/Purchase:
Review (netgalley)
Publication Date: 10/4/2011 (Harperteen)
Description: Benson Fisher thought that a scholarship to Maxfield Academy would be the ticket out of his dead-end life.
He was wrong.
Now he’s trapped in a school that’s surrounded by a razor-wire fence. A school where video cameras monitor his every move. Where there are no adults. Where the kids have split into groups in order to survive.
Where breaking the rules equals death.
But when Benson stumbles upon the school’s real secret, he realizes that playing by the rules could spell a fate worse than death, and that escape—his only real hope for survival—may be impossible.

Lightbringer - K.D. McEntire
Review/Purchase:
Review (Print ARC)
Publication Date: 11/15/2011 (PYR)
Description: A YA Urban Fantasy/Romance in a world a breath away from our own. Similar in tone to Tithe and Unleashed, Lightbringer tiptoes down the line between love and horror as an independent young woman discovers herself and the darkest parts of the afterlife.

Planesrunner - Ian McDOnald
Review/Purchase:
Review (Print ARC)
Publication Date: 1/24/2012 (PYR)
Description: Suddenly, thirteen year-old Everett has become the owner of the most valuable object in the multiverse -the Infundibulum -the map of all the parallel earths is an app on his computer, and there are dark forces who will stop at nothing to get it.

Tempest - Julie Cross
Review/Purchase: Review (Print ARC)
Publication Date: 1/3/2012 (St. Martins)
Description: The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

The Faerie Ring - Kiki Hamilton
Review/Purchase: Review (Finished Copy)
Publication Date: 9/27/2011 (Tor Teen)
Description: Debut novelist Kiki Hamilton takes readers from the gritty slums and glittering ballrooms of Victorian London to the beguiling but menacing Otherworld of the Fey in this spellbinding tale of romance, suspense, and danger.
The year is 1871, and Tiki has been making a home for herself and her family of orphans in a deserted hideaway adjoining Charing Cross Station in central London. Their only means of survival is by picking pockets. One December night, Tiki steals a ring, and sets off a chain of events that could lead to all-out war with the Fey. For the ring belongs to Queen Victoria, and it binds the rulers of England and the realm of Faerie to peace. With the ring missing, a rebel group of faeries hopes to break the treaty with dark magic and blood—Tiki’s blood.
Unbeknownst to Tiki, she is being watched—and protected—by Rieker, a fellow thief who suspects she is involved in the disappearance of the ring. Rieker has secrets of his own, and Tiki is not all that she appears to be. Her very existence haunts Prince Leopold, the Queen’s son, who is driven to know more about the mysterious mark that encircles her wrist.
Prince, pauper, and thief—all must work together to secure the treaty…

I quite enjoyed reading "Variant." I thought it was very well characterized, and it was an interesting twist on the material I'm used to seeing that has a similar concept. I hope you enjoy it too!
