Question..
“What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?"
Well, I can enjoy books for many different reasons, but it usually comes down to the characters. If I like the characters, I will continue reading the book. I can forgive a lot of problems with the story if the characters are done well.

I'm a character gal too!
For me, at the beginning of a novel, I need to like the writing to keep going. But, to really love a book I've been reading for a while, I need to love the characters, too, and their interesting plot decisions.

Hopping through. I need to have writing, plot, and characters to really love a book. The pacing may be the most important part for me at the start.
