Review: Once Dead, Twice Shy

Book: Once Dead, Twice Shy (Kim Harrison)
Series or Stand-Alone: Book #1, Madison Avery Series
Preview on Amazon
Description:
My name is Madison Avery, and I'm here to tell you that there's more out there than you can see, hear, or touch. Because I'm there. Seeing it. Touching it. Living it.
Madison's prom was killer—literally. For some reason she's been targeted by a dark reaper—yeah, that kind of reaper—intent on getting rid of her, body and soul. But before the reaper could finish the job, Madison was able to snag his strange, glowing amulet and get away. Now she's stuck on Earth—dead but not gone. Somehow the amulet gives her the illusion of a body, allowing her to toe the line between life and death. She still doesn't know why the dark reaper is after her, but she's not about to just sit around and let fate take its course.
With a little ingenuity, some light-bending, and the help of a light reaper (one of the good guys! Maybe . . . ), her cute crush, and oh yeah, her guardian angel, Madison's ready to take control of her own destiny once and for all, before it takes control of her.
Well, if she believed in that stuff.
I have never read a Kim Harrison book before, but I have heard great things about her books. I love young adult novels, and this one sounded extremely interesting to me, so I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad that I did. The story is very imaginative and there are plenty of plot twists. I love the main character, Madison Avery, she certainly has plenty of spunk. I only had one problem with this book - parts of it really seemed to drag. I listened to this on an audiobook and I don't know if I would have had this problem if I read it, but I found myself zoning out when some of the time keeping explanations were being explained. But, overall I enjoyed the story. I don't want to give too much away, but the ending of the book left me eagerly anticipating the next book - I am going to pick it up as soon as I can!

Also, like I said I listened to this one as an audiobook, and I just wanted to say that the narrator,  Mandy Siegfried, did an amazing job! Apparently, she narrates a lot of kids and young adult books, so keep an eye out for ones with her name attached!
